In the spring of 2011, Celeste O'Connor was asked by her friend (Laura Hugg - former HB member) with whom she'd studied imrov and sketch writing if she would like to do a new show focused on women and weight. Laura had been performing stand-up around a lot of men and felt like she needed to connect creatively with other women. Celeste was immediately on board and it was some of her written work on that very subject matter that served as the springboard for "Does This Show Make Me Look Fat?" which premiered at the 2012 Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival at Stage 773.
Within days of the conversation between Celeste and Laura, Keli Wriston, who had also written and performed with both of them approached Laura about doing a show. Georg Coleman in various forms of Das Glumlot, also approached Laura about doing a show so there seem to be a group mind happening. Thinking of the many talented actress they knew, they wanted to put together a creatively well-rounded comedic package and knew Georg was a great fit being a quadruple threat as an actor, singer, dancer and funny.
Yes, the work of Hi Betty! is about women and weight, but there is so much more. Please come to their show and see for yourself. Most importantly, these women are funny!
